Consequently, we find Christ knocking at the door of this emotional center called the heart, asking entrance. He does not force his way, but patiently knocks: "If anyone hears my voice
and opens the door, I will come in...."
For almost 2,000 years our Lord has faithfully, patiently, and wonderfully knocked on the doors
of human hearts. He knocks in many ways, 4 of which are:
1. Through His Word. The Lord Jesus
said, in John 5:24 "I tell you the truth,
whoever hears my word and believes
him who sent me has eternal life and
will not be condemned; he has crossed
over from death to life" We must hear
our blessed Lord's Word to be saved.
2. Through His people. Another
method our Lord uses to knock at the
door of human hearts is through His
children. In Rom 10:14 the Scripture
says, "And how can they hear without
someone preaching to them?" Many
great preachers of the Church have
preached the Word, but if the truth were
known -- and it will be when we stand
before the Judgment Seat of Christ —
Jesus knocks through the ordinary, everyday, often obscure people.
A man was taking his family for a ride in the car, when they were crossing the railroad tracks
the train struck the back of the car. Everyone got out of the car, all frightened. There was just
one member of the family, little Mary, a member the church, who was not frightened. The family
talked about what had happened and Mary said, "Daddy, if we had been one second later in
crossing that track all the family would have been in hell now but me." As soon as Mary said that,
the family prayed and asked Mary to lead them to Jesus.
Yes, there is no question about it. Jesus knocks on the door of human hearts, through His people.
3. Through His Holy Spirit. The Lord
made it clear in John 14:8 that he sent
the Holy Sprit to convict the heart of
humankind of "sin and righteousness
and judgment." Many who thought they
had escaped the preacher and the Word
of God have been awakened in the
middle of the night to toss restlessly on
their bed at the conviction of God's
Spirit, which is the gentle knocking of
Jesus at the door of one's heart.
4. Through providence. Providence is
God's gentle alignment of the affairs of a
person's life that continually point him
or her to the need of inviting Jesus into
one's heart. A yearning exists in his or
her heart because God exist.
Romans 1:19 "That which is known about God is evident within them;
for God made it evident to them."
Perhaps you have heard the Lord Jesus knock at your heart's door in all these ways:
through His Word, His people, His Holy Spirit, His providence. Have you opened the door
and accepted His promise? "If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in
and eat with him, and he with me." You are incomplete until you have fellowship with God
through His Son Jesus Christ ( I Johnl :3), which is only possible by inviting Him into your heart.
The picture of Christ knocking at the door is not only the picture of what He has been doing the
past 2000 years but the picture of all He is going to do in this age to bring people to Him. If we
refuse to voluntarily open the door of our heart, we reject Jesus Christ.
Mr. Holman Hunt has painted a picture of Christ knocking at the heart's door. He once ask a
friend what he thought of the picture? He said "It's beautiful but you have forgotten something,
there's no latch on the door." Mr. Hunt said " You missed the point of the picture. The man at the
door is the Lord Jesus Christ. The door is entrance to the human heart and the latch is on the
inside. Unless the one on the inside opens the door, Jesus will never come in."
Now in closing, I would like to say this to anyone who does not know if their name is written
in the Book of Life.
In Rev 2:7 Jesus says, "To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the
tree of life, which is in the paradise of God."
Believers will live forever in God's paradise.
Rev 2:11; "He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death."
Rev 2:28:1 will also give him the morning star."
This is God's promise to come into the believers heart and dwell with him or her.
Rev 3:5: "I will never blot out his name from the book of life."
Only those whose names are not written in the Book of Life are" thrown into the lake of fire." Believers need never fear hell, for Christ will see that our name remains in
His Book of Life.
..... but I will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels.
