                 Bible Study #1:  Your Salvation

Purpose of study:  To affirm and assure the person of their salvation experience, and to gain a better understanding of God’s plan of salvation which they have experienced

God’s first and foremost purpose for your life

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him

should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

God so loved the world He gave us Jesus to die for us.  The world

includes _______________________________ (your name).

(Note:  Help person to make sure he/she personalizes the love of God)

God’s purpose for my life is not for me to _____perish____________

God’s purpose for my life is to have ___everlasting life_______

To help you understand the meaning of perish read 2 Thess 1:7-9

and write below what happens to those who do not know God or

obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

They Pay the penalty of eternal destruction away from the presence of God

(Note:  understand perish is eternal separation from God - separated form all that is life, and love, and good).

Look up the following verses to help you understand some of the

things God gives you when you receive His gift of eternal life.  Fill

in the blank with what you think God gives you.

John 10:10 __life and have life abundantly_______________

John 11:25 ___you Live even if you die physically__________

John 17:3 _____to know God and Jesus Christ_______________

1 John 5:20 ___Gives us understanding to know Him_______

1 John 1:2-4 Fellowship with God and Jesus, His people, and our joy made complete

(NOTE:   these are things you should be experiencing in your life as a saved person)

Your problem that kept you from receiving eternal life

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,  Romans 3:23

For there is not a just man on earth who does good and does not sin.  Ecclesiastes 7:20

My problem was _____sin___________________.

Read Psalms 51:1-4.  According to verse 4 how would you define sin?

Sin is anything that displeases God or disobeys God’s will and purposes for your life

(Note:   personalize sin - your sin was against God Himself)
Read Ephesians 2:1-3; 2:12-13.  List some of the consequences of your

sins.

Dead in sins, walked according to course of world & devil; lived in lusts of flesh; indulging in desires of flesh/mind (self).   Separate from Christ; strangers to promise; no hope, without God in the world;

(NOTE:  what it means to be dead in sins;  explain course of this world - world trying to make you conform to its ways - peer pressure; Explain prince of air is devil - 2 Cor 4:3-4; John  14:30 - devil leads you to reject God; Explain lusts of flesh - sin nature - self desires & self centeredness

According to the following verses what abilities did you have to solve

your sin problem?

Romans 5:6, 8  __we were helpless,  sinners____________________

Rom 3:9-12 ___we don’t understand or seek God ____________

Isaiah 64:6  My righteousness as filthy rags, sin takes me away

God’s solution to the problem you could’nt solve

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ

 died for us.   Romans 5:8

To show us His great love God sent ___His Son, Christ_____________

to _____die _________   for your sins.

14  How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they

believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?  15

And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet

of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!"   16 But

they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?"   17

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.  18 But I say, have they not

heard? Yes indeed: "Their sound has gone out to all the earth, And their words to the

ends of the world.  Rom 10:14-18

God provided witnesses to proclaim the       Gospel                      of

________ Peace___________ (that is, good news about Jesus and His

salvation) to all the     earth/world (ie, all the people)                   .

(NOTE:   who were the witnesses that shared Christ with them)

But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who

proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.  John 15:26

Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away,

the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.   8 "And when He has

come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:   9 "of sin,

because they do not believe in Me;   10 "of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you

see Me no more;   11 "of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.  John 16:7-11

God uses the Holy Spirit to     testify_______________ about Jesus, and

convict the world of      sin________, of      righteousness                  ,

and of      judgment                  .

(Note:   sin is sin of unbelief; righteousness is Jesus; judgment is penalty of eternal separation from God.   Ask how did the Holy Spirit convicted you when you were saved?)

Always remember, you did not first seek out God, He came and

sought you!

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him  John 6:44

(NOTE:   share how the Holy Spirit drew you to Christ.   Summary: how God provided a solution to your sin problem: God sent His Son; God sent witnesses to share gospel; God sent the Holy Spirit to draw and convict you. )

Your response to God’s drawing you to Jesus for salvation

If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised

Him from the dead, you will be saved.  Romans 10:9

You ___believed                 God’s witnesses about Jesus Christ.

(Note:   What did you believe? Make sure you believed Jesus die for your sins and rose again for you to have eternal life)

But those things which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would

suffer, He has thus fulfilled. 19  Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be

 blotted out   Acts 3:18-19

You ____repented                 ( turned away from your sins to Jesus)

(NOTE:  what repent means - turn from self and sin to Jesus;   understand the process of repentance - 2 Cor 7 :10;  i.e., first had to feel godly sorrow - God made you feel sorry for your sin;  describe feelings had - sorrow, emptiness, etc -  this was work of HS convicting you)

If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised

Him from the dead, you will be saved.  Romans 10:9

You ____confessed                Jesus as Lord.

Explain Romans 10:9 (explain text in reverse order)

1.  “you will be saved” - explain the text shows what person must do to be saved

2.  “believe . . . dead” - explain believing God raised Jesus from dead includes believing Jesus died for your sins;  in your heart = genuine faith without doubt

3.  “confess. . . Lord”:  ask three ??:  What does word confess mean? Admit;  To whom do you confess?  Only God can save;   What do you confess?  Jesus is Lord

Explain with your mouth means from sincereity of your heart Matt 12:34

Explain what Lord means:  Lord is someone who controls your life

Ask them to share with you what they confessed when they were saved

Your response (believing, repenting, and confessing) to God’s drawing

you to Christ resulted in God causing you to be born again . . . to be

saved.

For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved." Romans 10:13

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great

mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of

Jesus Christ from the dead.  1 Peter 1:3

God’s assurances to you of your salvation

And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He

who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These

things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know

that you have eternal life. 1 John 5:11-13

God has promised that you can _____know               you have eternal life.

(Note:   you do not have to wait til you die to know you have eternal life.  You can know now)
Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who

does the will of My Father in heaven. Matthew 7:21

You did the ____will     _ of the Father according to the teaching

of the Bible.  You believed, repented, and confessed Jesus as Lord.

(Note:   the will of the Father is in John 6:40)

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, Romans 8:16

The Holy Spirit _bears witness       with your ___spirit__   that you

are a child of God, that is you have been born again.

(NOTE: your spirit is - ie inner person - intellect - soul - thought processes)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away;

behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17

You are a _____new creation                        , your life is changed.

You have new passions and desires to follow Jesus as your Lord.

(NOTE:  understand what new creation is.  You might use Col 3:1-2, 5-10)

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 "And I give them eternal

life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 "My

Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out

of My Father's hand. 30 "I and My Father are one.   John 10:27

Jesus has given you _____eternal life           , and you shall never

__perish (be separated from God)__.

No one is able to ____snatch         _ you out of the Father’s hand

(including yourself!).

(NOTE: Ask - does this include you?  Can you do anything that will cause yourself to be separated from God?   Romans 8:37-39 to understand nothing in this world even yourself can separate them from the love of Jesus a as saved person )

Spiritual growth through the study of the Bible and the application of

its truth (hearing and doing) to your personal life is one of the

greatest means of being assured of your salvation experience.

Like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grow in

respect to salvation.  1 Pet 2:2

(NOTE:   understand that you should have a desire for the teaching of the Bible like a new born baby desires milk.  The Bible is spiritual food which will nourish you and cause you to grow spiritually)

Why is it important to be certain of your salvation?

Read Matthew 7:13-14, 21-27.  Write below the reasons you find.

few find salvation.  Many will claim to be saved (Jesus is their Lord) but they are not.

(Note: understand there are many people who claim to know Jesus - even be saved - but don’t have eternal life.  Only those who have done the will of the Father are truly saved - point out vv24-27 - must hear word and do the word to stand;

(NOTE: how do you know you are not one of those who think saved but not?  Have you done Father’s will?  Believed in Jesus, repented - turned from self and sin to Jesus , confessed Jesus as Lord?   Does Spirit testify with your spirit you are saved?  Have you experienced a changed life?)

God so loved the world He gave us Jesus to die for us.  The world

includes _______________________________ (your name).
