HISTORY OF
"east lake FELLOWSHIP"
formerly:FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF SILVER CREEK
In the Late 1950's and early 1960's, development began on the east side of Lake Buchanan. Silver Creek and Council Creek were the first sub-divisions. In May of 1963, under the leadership of Pastor Hubert Christian, the First Baptist Church of Burnet voted to sponsor a Mission in this area. Then on June 26, 1963 a group of 23 people started meeting at different homes and met at the Silver Creek Sales office for Wednesday night services.
On March 5, 1964 E.A. Jones contributed land for the Mission. During this time the road was paved in front of the Mission and on to the Goodrich Ranch. Two pastor building couples, (the Ed & Dell Hartwells) came to begin construction on a place of worship. Sunday services were held at that time under the oak trees at the church property. Where Zoro (James Dicken's dog) became the mascot.
Theron Stephens of Spicewood, Texas was called as the first pastor, June 24, 1964. (with a salary of 35.00 a week) In May of 1966 R.V. Rhodes became our pastor and worked at the Goodrich Ranch to supplement his salary. Then in 1968 Theron Stephens returned as pastor from January of 1968 through October of 1972. In 1972 Brother Franklin Swanner came as our Interim pastor. In February of 1973 we elected him as full time pastor. About this time several new families were moving into the area which truly helped relieve some of the past financial difficulties, and things were looking up for the church.
After almost ten years as a mission, on March 18, 1973 under the leadership of Dr. Franklin Swanner the Silver Creek Baptist Chapel was organized into a full fledge church which was known then as First Baptist Church of Silver Creek. Our name was recently changed to "east lake FELLOWSHIP".
